Exactly how in the hell is that better than the original? I'd argue that it's better because it ends the comic with a much less cheesy punchline. The idea was that he was spending the time with the woman just to win a game. If he was truley happy with her, then he wasn't doing it necessarily to win the game, he was doing it to be happy too. This version makes the last frame into a sharper contrast with the rest of the comic. The way Randal did it, you see a happy relationship, and then the punchline just confirms that. I think it's much funnier to think that the guy spent all that time with her (possibly hating every second of it) just to win a stupid game. I would have had the woman die near the end and the man take her ring at the funeral apparently as a keepsake or something and then reveal that it was for a scavenger hunt. |
